QI is broadcast on Dave and BBC 2. Dave used to be called UKTV but was re branded as Dave in 2007. This new brand identity was based on the idea that 'everybody knows a bloke called Dave' to make the channel more relatable and memorable to its viewers.  

 At the moment QI is on it's twelfth series (Series L). It is shown on BBC 2 every Thursday at 22:00 and 23:05 and every Friday at 22:00 and 23:05. Many QI repeats are shown on Dave regularly, for example on Tuesdays at 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00; as well as at 03:15, 04:15, 21:00 and 22:00 on Wednesdays; additionally it's shown on Saturdays at 21:05 and 22:30

IT CROWD ANALYSIS

How are the characters constructed:

Jen- Jen is constructed as being a young adult in her 30's who is the complete opposite to Roy and Moss. She shows sociable skills and that, while she is able to get boyfriends, she always seems to never find the right person and a running gag throughout the series is her poor judgment when it comes to men. However, she lacks a serious understanding of IT knowledge and use with computers and is often seen struggling to figure out how they work.

Roy- Roy is a man in his 30's who is ill-tempered and seems to hate his job, being stuck as an IT person in the basement of an office. He is desperate to get a girlfriend but his lazy and slob like lifestyle coupled with his nerdy tendencies make him a deterrent for women despite his efforts to impress them.

Moss- Moss is another IT worker in his 30's and is meant to reflect the stereotypical, socially inept nerd of modern day society. Moss is presented to have a lack of social skills as demonstrated when struggling to speak to girls, but has an amazing knowledge of computers and how they work and so proves to be a highly intelligent character despite his autistic and awkward behavior.

In what way are Roy and Moss "standard nerds":

The two characters are presented as nerds in that they show exceptional talent and skills in computer and software and speak using technological IT terms that only people like them would understand, alienating them from everyone else. They also show a lack of social skills and struggle to talk to girls, usually having awkward behavior around them and showing almost autistic tendencies, although they try very hard to get girlfriends, something very stereotypical of a nerd.

What is comic about Jens appointment as IT manager:

She shows that she has no knowledge of IT or computers beyond sending and receiving emails, a basic everyday tool that everyone knows, yet she has been placed in charge of two highly intelligent IT workers with know common knowledge herself but still pretends to know in order to seem smarter than the men.

AUDIENCE PLEASURES QI

-In the clip we see Allen and Stephen Fry discussing poems with sound dirty but aren't meant to to be. The audience finds humor in watching the two characters discuss the poems and as grown men acting as immature children giggling at the innuendos.

-The audience also receives humor in knowing that a dirty joke is coming towards the end of the poem based on the rhymes and so the punchline of the joke is being built up and becomes funnier once said by a main character.

MOCK EXAM FEEDBACK

- Remember sound cannot be narrative.
- Identify camera shots i.e. mid-shot, angle, shot-reverse-shot, tracking shot.
- Stick to social types "soldiers/guards".
- Use terms like vfx.
- Use words like courage, determined, endure, leader when doing questions on representation.
- Expand on statements such as explaining why a character is villainous.

PLANNING AUDIENCE RESAERCH


I started by investigating how different clothes, technology and film brands target audiences in order to prepare for  creating my own audience profile for my AS Foundation Production. I need to plan to reach my target audience.

As part of distributing my film, I will be using different marketing strategies, such as reaching out to my target audiences through social media i.e. Facebook and Instagram and also by using things such as film posters.

In addition to profiling my audience, I will work out why they enjoy the genre. Why would they want to watch my film? What makes my film different from competing films of the same genre and  how will my film appeal to viewing needs of my target audience?

1.My target audience would be teens to young adults who are interested in horror/thriller movies and enjoy slick, up to date things such as new technology and clothes brands i.e iPhones and TopMan.

2. Our film stands out as an independent thriller/horror film about a young woman who discovers her boyfriend has failed to infect her with deadly virus and accidentally infected himself in the process.  

3. Our audience should watch our film because it is: "An original and refreshing take on classic horror/thriller films with an exhilarating plot which grabs you by the neck and never lets you go." TOTAL FILMS says: "A truly terrifying look into an infected mind!". 

Time spent understanding my audience will help me create a profile of my audience member. This information will then be useful when I create my marketing strategy.

My target audience consumes secondary media such as different radio stations and so I invested the target audience for Absolute and Capital radio.

My target audience turns to the internet to learn more about film releases. For exmaple my friends and I, who form the target audience for my film, find out about new films on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, IMBD and iTunes.
